What is the low FOMAP diet?
by FoodMaestro | 11 May 2016
FODMAPs stands for - fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols - but essentially it's a particular group of Carbohydrates, found in a wide range of everyday foods.
Certain FODMAPs increase the amount of water released in the gut and some do not get fully broken down and produce gas. In sensitive individuals this can lead to pain, bloating, wind and a change in bowel habit, often described as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
