Our story started in early 2009 when Daniyal, the son of our founder, Jaed Khan, suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction that landed him in hospital due to something he ate. The result was a call to action within the Khan household to understand clearly what products Daniyal can eat; how to ensure they know which ingredients to avoid and what steps to take if it ever happens again.
Through this experience, in late 2013 Jaed teamed up with a number of individuals with a view that something more needed to be done to help consumers overcome the challnges and obstacles the Khan household had continously faced in the past 4 years when shopping for groceries. The initial team consisted of Dr Lauri-Ann Van der Poel (Leading Clinical expert in pediatric allergy), Ken Chan (data & all round technology genius), Bal Cummins (user experience & design expert) and Dharmendra Patel (serial entrepreneur).
With two simple objectives;
(a.) “help Daniyal validate if he can eat a product” and;
(b.) “help find new foods that are suitable for Daniyal instantly within the shopping isle”
– Foodmaestro food app was born!
