FODMAP by FM app
FODMAP by FM enables you to manage and track your progress when you have been advised to follow a low-FODMAP diet. The app has been developed in partnership with expert knowledge from Kings College London and Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust. It is recommended that the app is used in conjunction with support of a Registered Dietitian.
Quick Food Checker
A handy list of foods to check for high FODMAPS with guidance on portion sizes. Easily view suitable foods, those to avoid and foods that are ok in small quantity.
Stage one – FODMAP restriction
Stage one involves restricting foods containing FODMAPs for a 4-6-week period in order to improve bowel symptoms and gut health. This is usually long enough to determine if your symptoms will respond to a low FODMAP diet. During this time, you can use the quick food checker, search and scan functions to find suitable low FODMAP foods. Use the Quick Food Checker for quick reference on the foods you can eat.
Stage two – FODMAP reintroduction
To enable you to manage your symptoms it’s important to undergo FODMAP reintroduction – this stage will help you identify which FODMAPs you’re most sensitive to by carefully reintroducing each of the different FODMAPs, testing one at a time. Remember to always make your diet varied and healthy as possible.
Stage three – FODMAP personalisation
Whilst avoiding foods that trigger your symptoms. You can now select to exclude foods that have been tailored to your personal tolerance identified in stage 2. The aim is to give your diet flexibility and variation, you can continue to use the FODMAP app to search and check suitable products.
FODMAP friendly foods
Why restrict your food choices to a limited range of products when following a low FODMAP diet? The app enables you to search to find every day food products available in leading UK supermarkets suitable to eat when following a low-FODMAP diet. Use our advanced search to include or exclude specific ingredients.
The app will indicate which stage you are currently completing. In stage one the app will check your symptoms fortnightly over a 4 to 6-week period. In stage two the recommendation is that you complete up to six food challenges. Track your gut symptoms during the food challenges and share results with your dietitian.
Low FODMAP lists
View ready-made product lists put together by our dietitians providing you with quick recommendations for FODMAP friendly foods.
Create personalised shopping list by adding products from search, scan barcodes or from your list of favourites. Share or email your shopping list with friends and family.
The setting options give you the ability to move easily thru the different stages e.g. you may already be following the diet and completed your challenges, you can now move directly to stage 3 personalisation. You can also opt to only see suitable products or all products.
The app provides our three stage approach to managing a Low FODMAP diet. Research has shown that one of the best ways to alleviate IBS symptoms is to avoid foods that contain a family of carbohydrates. A key feature of the app is finding suitable foods you can consume at each stage. The aim is for users to share information and work with their dietitian along this journey.King’s College London
